Keep Frozen part zero is a single-channel video work that is a prologue in the Keep Frozen research project of the artist. Length 00:46 loop. HD. Shot in Bildudalur in the West fjords of Iceland. The village has 166 inhabitants and saw its heyday in the 19th century thanks to a booming fishing industry. The inspiration for the video is the fact that despite fresh fish being caught in the fjord and the existence of the fishing factory the grocery shop in town only sells consumer products packed in tins and paper boxes. It tells the story of local products being replaced by import goods and consumer products making Iceland extremely dependant. The shift from sustainability to consumer society. Keep Frozen artistic research project is an investigation into the childhood memories of the artist of the aesthetics of harbour and waterfront areas. The focus is on rhythm, repetition, forms, colours, labour, movement, touch, reflection, transparency, projection and materials. The research has been conducted in diverse places along the Atlantic in Bildudalur, Reykjavik, Essaouira Morocco and Red Hook in New York. All fishing villages and/or docks in various states of being. Keep Frozen part one was an installation at DE-CONSTRUKT projects, NYC, USA, in the spring 2013 and Keep Frozen part two was an installation at Þoka gallery during Reykjavik Arts Festival in the spring 2014. Keep Frozen part one is a single-channel video work that was produced to be a part of a mixed-media installation Keep Frozen part one at DE-CONSTRUKT projects NYC. Length: 06:34 for installation view only. HD. The video was shot on location in 18th century fortified fishing town of Essaouira, Morocco, and in the artist studio in Berlin, Germany. In the video found objects from isolated beach on the Atlantic coast is cast as props.
