Solo exhibition at Reykjavík Art Museum
A mixed-media installation ‘WERK - Labor Move’ has opened at the Reykjavik Art Museum, Hafnarhús and will be open until 9th of May 2021. Curated by Birta Gudjónsdóttir
New series of 19 pairs of photographs previewed on Reykjavik Association of Sculptors instagram page
as part of the ‘Across the Golden Bridge’ summer exhibition in public space.
‘Hulda Rós embarked on an exploration process to create and follow her own system or rules of a game, a procedure of walking along the neighbourhood's cycling and walking paths and positioning herself in specific locations at 10-minute intervals and taking photographs at that location to the right and left. thus mapping out her experience of the neighbourhood.
Hulda Rós Guðnadóttir's work in the exhibition ACROSS THE GOLDEN BRIDGE takes place online, on the Reykjavik Association of Sculptor's Instagram account, during the exhibition period; 30th May – 20th September 2020.

On the 9th of November 2019 new video work ‘Ocean Glory’ a result of a new collaboration with composer Guðný Guðmndsdóttir and choregrapher Margrét Sara Guðjónsdóttir and also outcome of a new research project S-I-L-I-C-A, was premiered as a part of Invocations public program at Savvy Contemporary in Berlin. Screening of Keep Frozen in Gdansk
By invitation of The Centre of Culture in Gdansk, Poland the 'Keep Frozen' film was screened in this beautiful St. John church on the 8th of October. It was part of a program on immigration and my assistant director on the film Karolina Boguslawska represented the film in a panel discussion on immigration in Iceland.

Book publication ´Feral Attraction. The Museum of Ghost Ruminants´about artist duo Snaebjornsdottir/Wilson artistic research work on the Talkni sheep has been published with an article by Hulda about their work methods titled ‘Becoming Sheep’.

‘Hooked’ is a bronze wall sculpture born as a gesture of the artist long-term research project Keep Frozen. It is a bronze cast of a hook used by dockworkers to hook into the straps of heavy cargo boxes when unloading factory freezer trawlers.

COLLABORATION WITH 6x6project for sale of video work editions
Today Saturday the 18th of May the collaboration with 6x6project became official. 6x6 is founded and run by artist Mirelle Borra and the site is curated by artist nominating other artists. Two works are for sale on the website: ‘Material Puffin’ from 2014 and ‘Keep Frozen part zero’ from 2013.
6×6 project is an artist-run online platform dedicated to the distribution and promotion of artists’ works in digital form.
Winner of 'Gudmunda Award' for outstanding Icelandic female artists
From the Award Ceremony at the Reykjavik Art museum but the museum supervises the award that was founded some 20 years ago by Erro in memory of his aunt Gudmunda Kristjansdóttir. This was the 20th time the Gudmunda prize was awarded.
On the picture left is the founder Erró, in the middle the awardee and to the right Dagur B. Eggertsson mayor of Reykjavik city that handed out the award together with Erro. On the picture are missing Ólöf Sigurdadótttir, director of Reykjavik Art Museum, Harpa Thorsdottir, the director of the National Gallery of Iceland and Hlynur Hallsson the director of the Akureyri Art Museum that together make the jury of the award.

'All is Full of Love' solo exhibition at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin

The exhibition was held in collaboration with Cycle Music and Art Festival (Guðný Guðmundsdóttir art director, Sara Öldudóttir researcher and Jonatan Habib Engqvist curator) and curated by Jonatan Habib Engqvist. New music piece was composed by artist Joseph Marzolla and scholar Ann-Sofie Gremaud held a seminar in connection to the exhibition together with the artist and art director Guðný Guðmundsdóttir.

‘All is Full of Love’ investigates the role of colonial relations in identity formation and their conditional effects through recent, past and current predicaments. Connecting the three most important industries in Icelandic modern times: fish, tourism and art Hulda Rós Gudnadóttir positions herself as the evolving figure of the- artist-as-puffn while underlining the manual labour that prevails, in spite of shifting class structures. - Jonatan Habib Engqvist

The Danish scholar Ann-Sofe Gremaud has claimed that Iceland could be perceived as a crypto-colonyi as a means of understanding an underlying condition of Icelandic society: The centuries of Danish rule and a widespread negligence of its actual consequences - including the continuation of power structures that have favoured the few over the many - have had a lasting impact on Icelandic society. Additionally, the fxation on “norientalist” stereotypes can be viewed as a process of European-colonial reciprocal identity formation. As Hegel has explained, identity processes rely heavily on mutual confrmation: The centre needs to defne a periphery (an “other”) in order to defne itself. Iceland has certainly played a vital role as “the other place”, where explosive natural power has been juxtaposed to the long history of European culture. Historical colonial association with the natural state has for instance led to Icelanders being perceived as more original, authentic, unspoiled or even uncivilised and barbaric. Reactions to that perception have sometimes included its rejection, whilst at others, embraced it and so been complicit in self-exoticisation.

All is Full of Love surveys contemporary manifestations of crypto-colonial patterns by focusing on the obvious, massive growth of the tourist industry on the one hand, and the less visible but imperative fsh industry on the other. These manifestations become a means of discussing gentrifcation processes currently taking place in Iceland utilising a triangulation between fsh, tourism and art. At the same time, they are tightly linked to developments on a global scale due to the expansion and reach of capitalism and the neo-liberalisation of the the principles of the welfare state. In this way, it is both the story of ‘an other’ and relatable to the wider context of socio-political and ecological unrest in the world today. - Jonatan Habib Engqvist
