Dionysia is an artist run informally structured residency program founded in 2007. Hulda Ros Gudnadottir mainly runs the residency but artists, designers and theorists from all genres have been involved in organization and conceptualization of the project.
In collaboration with village folks and authorities it takes place in rotating villages around Iceland 10 days each year.
The participants are an international group of 5 to 7 people with different backgrounds in art, design or theory. The aim is to encourage dialogue between different fields while they tackle a common problem; how to get involved with the locals. The main objective is to encourage collaboration of any kind between local talent and knowledge and the global players that are visiting for a short time. The Dionysia program is thought as a platform that can lead to larger scale and more long-term relationships and projects in the future.
So far 12 villages and over 60 global participants have taken part in the Dionysia residency. For more information see
